The Assignment: Using runner interviews and footage of the course, edit a documentary that charts the journey of the Divide 200 and its national sense of pride, while building excitement for a new event.

FROM THE EDITING ROOM
The Divide 200 was my third ultramarathon documentary, and the one that most felt uncharted ground.

Working with footage from an inaugural event is a great opportunity to help establish a brand identity. For Blackbird Sports, their new ultramarathon was a combination of discovery and appreciation; the Canadian Rockies are renowned worldwide, and building a window into that world for new viewers was an act of storytelling.

This doc ended up being more chronologically-ordered than the other two, with the goal of immersing the viewer in the trials and triumphs of the runners as they experienced it. By the time it reaches the finish line, the feeling of accomplishment is contagious, and the promise of future events becomes an exciting prospect.
